About the Pool
Sam Fishman Memorial Pool History
The Sam Fishman Memorial Pool is a municipal pool located at 43 East Street. It was built in 1966 and was originally known as the Vergennes Community Pool. This pool was made possible from a federal grant and a large match from Simmonds Precision (known now as Collins Aerospace). In 1975, after the death of Samuel Fishman, the pool was renamed the Sam Fishman Memorial Pool in part of a large donation from the Fishman Family and annual donation thereafter. It was Sam Fishman’s wish for the pool to continue and be available for all children in the community. He wanted every child to learn how to swim, being so close to Lake Champlain. In April 2010, the City of Vergennes assumed ownership of the pool from the Vergennes Graded School District. The Sam Fishman Pool is a popular recreation spot for community members to enjoy in the summer months.
