             VERGENNES SWIM TEAM
        ~WE WELCOME AND ENCOURAGE NEW SWIM TEAM MEMBERS~

VERGENNES SWIM TEAM (VST) The “Champs”:
Be at least 5 years old and completed kindergarten, can swim 50 yards unassisted with minimal stopping, and can push off of the wall and glide on the surface of the water with face in the water.

 JUNIOR CHAMPS PREP TEAM- The prep team is an introduction to competitive swimming for swimmers with previous swim lesson experience.  Swimmers must be able to tread water and have some level of comfort swimming 25 yards independently. Practices will include more individualized attention to help the swimmer become more skilled and confident in the water as they prepare for swim meet competition in the future.  Practices are held on Mondays & Wednesdays from 6:00PM-6:45PM

SCHEDULE:
      Summer practice schedule
  • Practices:
    • MORNINGS: Weekdays 7:30AM-9:30AM & Saturday 8:00AM-9:15AM 
    • EVENINGS: Monday & Wednesday 7:00PM-8:30pm
LEVELS:
  • Smelts- Swimmers must be able to jump feet first into the deep end & swim 25 yards (freestyle and backstroke) without stopping. 
  • Perch (Level 1)
  • PUMPKIN SEED (Level 2)
  • Bass (Level 3)-Swimmers will focus on building endurance, competition strategy, and improving technique. Swimmers in this group are experienced swimmers aged 11 and up.  Swimmers must be able to swim 100 yards confidently without stopping
  • Sturgeon (Level 4)
  • Gar (SWAT)
The above schools will have slots in both morning and evenings. Saturdays will be clinics for all levels and devoted time for Smelts, Perch, & Pumpkin Seed swimmers*. All level time slots during these practice options will be scheduled and announced closer to the start of the season. *Our levels are different then Red Cross swim lesson levels.

SWIM LEVEL TEST: If you are new to the team or interested in knowing   your swimmer’s swim level prior to registering please reach out to             vergennesswimteam@gmail.com to schedule a swim test.  The coaches will determine which level your child will best succeed at, this may include Junior Champs. All Junior Champs must have a swim test.  

FEES & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Swim Team Fee: $130.00 for Resident and $140.00 for Non Residents for the first 2 swimmers and $30.00 off for the 3rd swimmer and $55.00 off  a for each swimmer after.  All children must be registered at the same time for the discount to be applied. 
  • In addition to the swim team fee, all swim team members must purchase a pool membership pass from the City of Vergennes before the first swim practice for VST. This can be done online through the Rec Department website: Vergennes Parks & Recreation: Pool Membership (myrec.com)
  • JUNIOR CHAMPS AND SMELT $100.00 R  $110.00 NR.  You are not required to purchase a pool pass, but must still check in for practice. 
Cost should not prevent any swimmer from participating. We offer financial aid to families. Please contact Martha DeGraaf, recreation@vergennes.org for confidential assistance.
