Beginner West African Djembe Drum Class

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

This is a class for beginners to learn the basics of W. African djembe drum rhythms, taught by Guinean master drummer, Seny Daffe.  Music, drum and dance are very much a part of everyday life in Guinea, W. Africa, and Seny grew up drumming from the time he was a very young boy.  He has traveled to many countries in Africa, Europe, and all over the US, teaching and performing.  He has lived much of the past 15 years in the US, with frequent trips back to Guinea, and is in high demand for his fun and engaging classes, passing on to you the culture and rhythms of his homeland!

In this class, you will learn to play the basic three tones of the djembe drum~ the tone, the slap and the bass~ and practice them as you learn a rhythm or two.  If you’re curious to see where this can lead, come watch the advanced class at Holley Hall in Bristol on Sundays at 5:30!
